Areas of Work

Sports and Competition Law

1 Temple Gardens is skilled in this developing area of the law.

Members of Chambers have dealt with injury and quantum claims on behalf of both Premiership clubs (Tottenham Hotspurs FC) and players (Alan Hudson).

Advice is regularly provided as to negligence in such areas as collapsed scrum cases in rugby union and damage to persons and property in equestrian event.

In contract and commercial matters Members of Chambers are instructed to advise upon and draft contracts and have been involved in issues of contracts of employment - see Burns & Crowe v Leicestershire County Cricket Club 2003 a test case on professional cricketers' employment rights (Tim Kevan).

Members of Chambers have written text books on the subject - see Sports Injury Law and Practice Sweet & Maxwell (Tim Kevan and Dominic Adamson) and have provided various articles on Sports and Competition Law for legal publications.

Members of Chambers are instructed in the leading sports law cases including:

Mountford v Newlands School (Court of Appeal) [2007] EWCA Civ 21 - a school was held vicariously liable when a member of staff had selected a boy well over the age group for a junior rugby team and that boy's size, weight and maturity had contributed to an opposing player being injured (Tim Kevan).
